Electric cars use the energy stored in one or more batteries to move the vehicle. The automobile industry has a big challenge ahead, how to mass produce electric cars that can travel a long distance without needing to re-charge the battery.
Electric cars are cleaner because they produce no pollution and they are really becoming an alternative since the advances being made in Research and Development are important, as are other non- fossil fuel alternative vehicle options such as using gas or hydrogen.
It is in the manufacturing of electric cars where manufacturers are making major investments in R & D. At this time electric cars or motorcycles have faster acceleration than conventional cars or motorcycles but over much shorter distances. The innovations are almost daily in electric vehicle development.

In the United States- Telsa

Tesla Motors was founded by Martin Eberhard and Martin Tarpenning in 2003. In that year, many people thought their ideas to produce electric cars for all audiences would never be a reality but this has not been the case. Their first electric car, the Roadster has been a great success and even though it was priced at $ 100,000 many famous people has been driving a roadster including famous people like the actor George Clooney.
Also this company has created a more family oriented, four-door Saloon called the Model S.It costs about $ 50,000. Both cars are very fast and are able to go from 0 to 60 in under six seconds.
Features
Model S. Price of about $ 50,000, a chance to go up to 300 miles on a charge, a pure electric car, 0 to 60mph in 5.6 seconds, a much bigger boot than a conventional car.
Roadster, Price $ 100,000, a chance to go up to 244 miles on a charge, 100 percent electric car, speed of 0 to 60mph in 3.9 seconds.

In China BYD

The Chinese manufacturer BYD – which stands for Build Your Dreams has signed a Memorandum Of Understanding with Volkswagen for work and research into electric vehicles. BYD are already building electric cars in China on a large scale.

In Europe, Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi has released the i MiEV. This car is a zero emission vehicle, according to the manufacturer,  even the C02 emitted when manufacturing the car is 30% percent less than the average conventional compact car. The car is well designed, quite fast and Mitsubishi state that the cost per mile can be as little as one-ninth of a gasoline car if you leave the car on overnight recharging.
