Green Roof Insulation
Insulation
It has been proven that it easier to keep a building well insulated if the exterior layer is protected by coating or a protective area.
A green roof produces a protective barrier and acts as an ideal insulator. As there is a much thicker layer of protection than a traditional roof top the insulation properties can be increased by selecting the right type of soil and plants.
Plants and soil- Growing medium has the advantage that is lighter than normal soil and additional nutrients can be added. Choose a growing medium with a low soil density and high moisture content. When choosing your plants use plants with a large leaf capacity, plants will actually use heat from their surrounding area and they will evaporate the water they absorb.
Sound Insulation
A green roof top will also act as sound insulator. The thick layer once again stops noise entering and leaving the building.
