Roofing Materials

Roofing
The roof can act as major part of the design of a more energy efficient building and the materials used play an important role.
Design. One area which designers and Architects are using more is creating air chambers by adding a double roof to the building. This technique can avoid the use of air conditioning and minimize heating bills. There are more and more ways of incorporating green initiatives in to the roof design. One of the main objectives for Architects in the use of natural resources such as the sun or wind so that the roof is helping the building be more energy efficient.
Materials
When choosing the materials for your roof consider all the options. Could your roof actually be suitable as a green roof top. This would mean instead of covering the roof with standard tiles you could make the roof a living area which will protect and insulate your building and last far longer than a traditional roof.
Tiles
Choose lightweight  tiles or shingles and use bright colors which will reflect some of the heat back into the atmosphere as will slightly putting your roof at an angle, (flat roofs absorb more heat ) and also look for tiles which will be strong and will not need to replaced often.
Renewables
Many renewable energy sources are often placed on the roof ( Small Scale Wind and Solar), in your design try and look for a good place to install renewable energy.
