Office Lighting

Office Lighting Piccy
In an office or commercial building there is not a type of “typical “light.
One of the key areas of our Commercial Energy Audit is to identify all the types of lighting within your commercial premise. The most common lights found are fluorescent tubes and lights, Exit signs, lamps, wall lights, signage, ceiling lights and Exterior lighting.
One of the first things to do is inspect the state of the fittings, cabling etc as this can also effect the efficiency of the light.
Replacing old lighting and incandescent lights and bulbs for newer energy efficient lighting and LED lights can mean a huge saving depending on the size of the building. There are also many simple ways of making energy savings with office or commercial use- one of the most simple is SWITCH the lights off. We have all seen pictures of Skyscrapers at night with all the lights switched on, the sad thing is in many cases there are not many people in the building. Simply introducing a policy that after a certain hour the main lights of the building have to be switched off as already made some huge savings for many large organizations and could for your company too.

Use of Natural Light
By introducing Sky Lights or by adding windows to your building or doors you can decrease dramatically the need for artificial light. A typical area where this has been overlooked is warehousing, many warehouses in Spain have none or little natural light whatsoever and therefore constantly need to have the lights switched on. By the introduction of windows you can allow lots of natural light into your building. Another factor to consider is that natural light gives employees a natural “feel good “factor. This is itself has an important effect on employee engagement.
Simply removing some wall panels or replacing them with glass can have an immediate effect. The use of Sun Tubes is also becoming more popular, especially in the States, where light is transported to another tube or light where light is shared by the same source.
